Do you know what a lightmap is? Its A pre-defined and pre-rendered shadow... Far Cry/HL2 use these outdoors thats why they can render such huge ass environments. Doom3 doesnt have a single one... every shadow in the game is dynamic and thats why they cant have huge outdoors... look at the quake 4 video much larger and brighter outdoor scenes then in doom3 probably because hardware has advanced for them to do that |
