Quite a few games gave players a reason to do stuff. Gives them an approach to the things ahead. Whether it makes you hate the antagonist or even force you to do stuff against your will and make choices you don't want to make.
That is a good game but when some bloke tells me to risk my LIFE for no particular reason, for something that does not connect to the game at all, with result without any consequences, that's a proof that you're playing a something you probably shouldn't.
